Easy Virgin Mojito

⭐️ Why You Should Try It

  • Simple and inexpensive. This refreshing virgin mojito is not only easy to make but also won’t break the bank. Plus, no fancy bartending skills are required. You don’t even need a shaker. Just six basic ingredients, and you’re good to go!
  • Low-calorie. Making low-calorie mocktails at home has never been this quick and easy. This way, you can enjoy delicious drinks without the extra calories.
  • A crowd-pleaser. Increase the quantities of this mocktail recipe and make it in a pitcher to serve a crowd. It’s the perfect solution for your next gathering! Especially since it’s suitable for all ages.

📘 What is Mojito

A mojito is a cocktail typically made with rum, fresh lime juice, mint leaves, a sweetener, and a splash of soda or sparkling water. The glass is then garnished with more mint leaves and lime wedges and served with ice cubes.

While the traditional mojito contains alcohol, our version is family-friendly! It has all the same refreshing flavors as a traditional mojito but without the alcohol. Everyone can enjoy it, including kids and non-drinkers!

🌿 Ingredient Notes

Making this non-alcoholic mojito requires just 6 ingredients and 5 minutes! Here is what you will need:

  • Mint leaves – Fresh mint leaves give this virgin mojito a refreshing twist that is perfect during hot weather. They are an essential ingredient in this recipe.
  • Lime – Fresh limes are best. They bring a citrusy flavor, making this drink bright and flavorful. If fresh limes are unavailable, you can try using limeade or citrus sparkling water to add a burst of flavor to the drink.
  • Rum syrup – To give your mojitos a more authentic flavor, we recommend using this rum syrup. It is an alcohol-free syrup that tastes exactly like rum without the alcohol! You definitely won’t miss the rum in this mojito! You can use agave or other sweeteners if you can’t find rum syrup. Be aware that it won’t taste the same, though.
  • Apple juice – I went with apple juice, but you could definitely use white grape juice. I recommend adding a bit more sparkling water if using white grape juice, as it’s usually sweeter than apple juice.
  • Sparkling water – To make your virgin mojito bubbly! I like to use plain sparkling water, but you can also use your favorite flavored sparkling water. Don’t hesitate to try different flavors to find the perfect match for your taste buds!
  • Ice cubes – Ice cubes or crushed ice for freshness.

🥣 How to Make It

  1. Muddle the mint. Add the mint leaves, lime, and rum syrup to a large glass. Using a muddler or a wooden spoon, mash mint leaves and lime to release the lime juice and the mint flavor.
  2. Fill the glass with ice. Generously fill the glass with ice cubes or slightly crushed ice.
  1. Pour in the remaining ingredients. Next, add the apple juice and sparkling water to the glass and stir to combine.
  2. Garnish. You can then garnish with more mint leaves and lime wedges. Serve immediately!

📔 Tips

  • Do not omit the muddling step. Muddling the mint leaves is essential to release their natural oils.
  • Make a pitcher. While the given recipe is for one mojito, we highly recommend tripling or quadrupling the recipe to make a pitcher for your party.
  • If making a pitcher: Pulse fresh mint in a processor or chop it roughly to save the hassle of muddling in each glass.
  • Adjust sweetness to taste. Be sure to adjust the amount of sweetener to your liking by tasting the mocktail as you go because preferences vary; some prefer sweeter, others less.

🍓 Variations

This recipe will give you a traditional mojito mocktail, but you can customize it to your liking by adding:

  • Fruits: Fresh or frozen fruit, such as strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, or even watermelon.
  • Chili: Add thinly sliced jalapeños (or jalapeños muddled with limes) for a spicy drink.
  • Syrup: Combine the rum syrup with other fruit syrups such as raspberry, peach, or mango.

🍸 What to Serve It With

You can serve this mojito with some snacks or appetizers, such as guacamole, cucumber sandwiches, or coated peanuts!

❄️ Storing

You can muddle the mint, lime, and rum syrup and store it in a jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. The syrup will act as a natural preservative. This way, you can easily and quickly whip up a mojito anytime!

💬 FAQ

I don’t have a muddler. What else can I use?

You can use a wooden spoon or spatula to mash the mint.

Why does my mojito taste flat?

You either didn’t muddle the mint enough or didn’t add enough rum syrup.

What do you serve a mojito in?

Although you can use any type of glass, I would suggest using highball glasses.

This virgin mojito is perfectly sweet, packed with refreshing lime and mint, and has a delicate rum aroma! This citrusy drink is an absolute must-try for the whole family!
