Roasted Pears in Ginger Syrup

⭐️ Why You Should Try It

  • Wholesome ingredients. Low in calories and fat, this easy pear dessert is naturally sweetened with maple syrup and coconut sugar. Plus, you will need only 6 simple, easy-to-find ingredients and about 10 minutes of prep time, making it a great last-minute weeknight dessert!
  • Perfect use for leftover pears. If you happen to have a lot of ripe pears on hand and are not sure what you should do with them, give this recipe a try!
  • A family-friendly treat. This recipe would make a perfect dessert for the whole family. Adults and kids love it, especially when served with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream!

🍐 Ingredient Notes

Here are what you will need to prepare this amazing dessert:

  • Pear – It’s essential that your pears are perfectly ripe. They must be soft to the touch but still possess a firm texture. Regarding the variety, I recommend using Bosc or Anjou pears.
  • Maple syrup – For sweetest and to add a subtle caramel flavor. If you don’t have maple syrup, you can replace it with agave syrup. Besides, honey can be used as a non-vegan option.
  • Coconut sugar – For extra sweetness and, again, to add a hint of caramel aroma.
  • Cornstarch – It helps thicken the sauce. Alternatively, you can use arrowroot or tapioca starch.
  • Ginger – I highly recommend using fresh ginger for optimal flavor. It brings a hint of spice and a citrusy aroma that pairs wonderfully with the pears.

🥣 How to Make It

You will need just 10 minutes and about 30 minutes of baking to make these delicious baked pears.

  1. Prepare the pears. Start by peeling the pears. Halve them and remove the core.
  2. Arrange them in a baking dish. Place the pear halves cut side down in a large baking dish.
  3. Make the syrup. Next, prepare the syrup by combining maple syrup, coconut sugar, water, cornstarch, and minced ginger in a small bowl.

  1. Combine. Pour the syrup over the pears into the baking dish.
  2. Bake. Bake the pears in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until tender. Then, flip them and place them under the broiler for a few minutes to caramelize them slightly.

The result is beautifully golden brown pears that have soaked up the maple ginger syrup.

📔 Tips

  • Adjust the baking time. Depending on the type and size of the pears, you may have to adjust the baking time. Test the doneness with a thin knife. The pears should be perfectly soft but not mushy.

🌰 Variations

  • Top with nuts: After baking, garnish with roasted nuts such as walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, or almonds.
  • Add spices: For extra flavor, sprinkle the pears with cinnamon, cardamom, or apple spice.
  • Infuse with vanilla: Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract or replace the coconut sugar with vanilla sugar for a fresh and floral aroma.

🍨 What to Serve It With

I love to serve the pears warm with a couple of tablespoons of ginger syrup, a dollop of vanilla ice cream or coconut cream, and some crushed peanuts on top. Delicious!

What I love about this recipe is that it can be served warm in the fall and winter or served cold in the summer. Oh, and if you have leftovers, just use them as a topping for oatmeal. It’s amazing!

❄️ Storing and Reheating

  • To store: Baked pears will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
  • To freeze: Let the roasted pears cool completely before transferring to a freezer-safe container. They will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and enjoy chilled or warm.
  • To reheat: Warm the roasted pears in a 350°F (175°C) preheated oven for 20-25 minutes. You can also reheat the leftovers in a microwave or in an air fryer.

Omg yum! Looks amazing. I can’t wait to try this with the pears I just got from the farmers market! Do you think the syrup would still carry the same consistency and flavor effect if I left out the coconut sugar?

I made this using organic bosc pears, which I did not peel to retain all the goodness, and used raw sugar as that is what I had on hand. My guests opted for no nuts, as we had other desserts, but I would serve it with chopped pecans over peanuts, although I’m sure any nut would be good. I also added cinnamon, as it is very cold here. It was perfection. Everyone loved it! Tastes like much more work than it is.
This is my go-to website for vegan cuisine.

Simple to make and tastes great. Can easily be scaled up to serve more people. Try adding a bit more cornstarch to thicken the syrup.
